Abdur-Rahim named AAC Coach of the Year
MBB: The former Racer assistant in his first year as South Florida's head coach

The American Athletic Conference announced South Florida’s Amir Abdur-Rahim as their Coach of the Year on Tuesday.
Abdur-Rahim led the Bulls to a conference regular season championship for the first time in program history in his first season with the Bulls. South Florida was picked ninth in The American’s Preseason Coaches Poll. South Florida had a 15-game winning streak in conference play, tied for the fourth-longest conference win streak in league history. Abdur-Rahim also led the Bulls to a Top-25 ranking for the first time in the history of the program.
After playing at Southeastern Louisiana for Head Coach Billy Kennedy, and a young assistant coach named Steve Prohm, Abdur-Rahim was a part of Kennedy’s staff at Murray State from 2006 to 2011. Abdur-Rahim got his first head coaching job at Kennesaw State in 2019. In his first season with the Owls, Kennesaw State went 1-28. By Abdur-Rahim’s fourth year at Kennesaw, the Owls were 26-9 and earned their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
After today’s Coach of the Year announcement, South Florida released the following video acknowledging the accomplishment — with some cameos from a few familiar Racer faces.
At 23-6, South Florida will play in The American Tournament quarterfinals on Friday at noon against a yet-to-be determined opponent.
Love it for him!!!
