Applewhite commits to Georgia Southern
MBB: The junior forward spent the last two seasons with Murray State

Former Murray State forward Alden Applewhite has found a new basketball home. The Memphis product posted on X Friday afternoon that he’ll finish his college career at Georgia Southern.
After the coaching change at Murray State last month, Applewhite entered the transfer portal. Appearing in all 33 games for the Racers this past season, Applewhite averaged 5.8 points per game, while shooting a career-best 38.0% from three-point range.
His season was highlighted by a career-high 22 points at UIC in Murray State’s double-overtime loss, where all of his points came after halftime.
Applewhite started his career at Mississippi State, where he played just two games before suffering a season-ending injury. After transferring to Portland for the 2022-23 season, the Memphis-product wanted to play closer to home, so he transferred to Murray State. He expected to have to sit out the 2023-24 season due to transferring a second time, but a federal injunction against the NCAA’s two-time transfer rule in December made him immediately eligible. Applewhite ended up playing 20 games last season, averaging 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds coming off the bench for the Racers.
Applewhite scored his 500th career point February 1st at Missouri State.
