Belmont's Gillespie to enter transfer portal
MBB: The sophomore guard was 2nd Team All-Conference this season

Belmont sophomore guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie has announced he will be entering the transfer portal and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Gillespie posted the following statement on X/Twitter on Friday afternoon:
Despite missing seven games in January, Gillespie earned 2nd Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as he averaged 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this year. The 6’1 sophomore shot 56.1% from the field, 38.7% from three-point range and 83.1% from the free throw line. Gillespie’s 2.2 steals per game were tied for 18th most in the country. He scored in double-figures in 24 of the 25 games he played in this season. The only game Gillespie didn’t reach 10+ points was the game at Southern Illinois where he left early due to injury.
In Belmont’s February 7th win over Murray State in Nashville, Gillespie had a game-high 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists. In the Bruins’ February 28th win in Murray, Gillespie chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
Gillespie and the Bruins finished 20-13 overall, and tied for fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 12-8 record. Belmont lost to Northern Iowa, 67-62, in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
