Canaan moving from Greece to Serbia
MBB: The Murray State Hall of Famer spent the last two seasons in Greece
Hours after Isaiah Canaan and Olympiacos lost the Greek League championship series against Panathinaikos Friday afternoon, EuroHoops.net reported that Canaan has found a new basketball home. After two seasons in Greece with Olympiacos, Canaan will be moving to Belgrade, Serbia to play for Crvena Zvezda next season.
Olympiacos won the first two games of the Best-of-5 Greek League championship series, before Panathinaikos rallied back to win the deciding Game 5, 87-82, on Friday.
Canaan averaged 11.1 points in 41 games this season for Olympiacos, as he shot 42.5% from three-point range. According to EuroHoops.net, Canaan has signed a two-year contract with Crvena Zvezda. There was a roster squeeze at Olympiacos, as the team is only allowed to have six non-Greek players on their roster. With an excess of guards on the roster, and too many non-Greek players, Canaan was deemed expendable.
The Murray State Hall of Famer has spent the last four seasons in the EuroLeague, and that will continue next season with Crvena Zvezda. Crvena Zvezda has been the dominant team in Serbia for the last several years, but they are yet to advance to the EuroLeague finals in their history.
