Two former Murray State Racers, who both played for Steve Prohm ten years apart, faced off this afternoon in Europe.
Isaiah Canaan, who plays for Crvena Zvezda in Serbia, hosted Jamari Smith and Mornar out of Monenegro. While Smith outscored Canaan 14-9 in the game, Crvena Zvezda got the win 91-72.
This was the second game of the season for both teams in the AdmiralBet ABA League. The league is comprised of teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. Crvena Zvezda is now 1-1 on the year, while Mornar falls to 0-2.
Smith is averaging 15.0 points through the first two games of the season. He averaged 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for Murray State during his only season with the Racers during the 2022-23 campaign.
Canaan is scoring 11.0 points in his first season with Crvena Zvezda. The Murray State Hall of Famer is in his 12th professional season. Canaan spent the last two years playing with Olympiacos in Greece.
Crvena Zvezda will open EuroLeague play on Friday against Paris. Mornar will stay in the ABA League on Saturday when they challenge Cedevita Olimpija.
