Countdown to Racer Hoopalooza: Hiring Scott Edgar
MBB: The former Racer coach reflects on his journey to Murray

(The 2023 edition of Racer Hoopalooza will be the weekend of July 28th and 29th, as Murray State Basketball honors the Scott Edgar-era Racers from 1991-1995. I recently spent two hours sitting with Coach Edgar in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, picking his brain about his time leading Murray State to three Ohio Valley Conference championships and two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll roll out more of my conversation with him as we talk about the players, the teams, and the moments that made his four years in Murray so special. I look forward to bringing all of that to you as we closer to Hoopalooza.)

“Like most kids, you want to be a professional,” Edgar said. “Both games were great to me, basketball and baseball. Like I tell kids, at some point in time, somebody’s going to tell you, ‘Hey, you’re not good enough to play at the next level or even this level.’ Then you’ve got to go do something else. I just fell into coaching.”
