Courbon officially signs with Racers
MBB: Ryan Miller is now just three signings away from completing his 2025-26 roster
Minutes after Mathis Courbon publicly committed to play for the Racers next season, Murray State announced the signing of the 6’6 wing from Lyon, France.
"Mathis Courbon, our first French basketball player at Murray State, marks an exciting step in recruiting elite European talent," Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller said in a statement. "This 6-6 dynamic athlete brings proven playmaking and scoring prowess to the Racers."
Courbon has played professionally for the last two seasons with Chorale Roanne in the LNB Pro B — the second level of professional basketball in France. Even though he is a professional in France, there are some NCAA loopholes that allow professional players from overseas come to the United States to play collegiately.
In 23 games this season with Chorale Roanne, Courbon is averaging 2.5 points in 8.1 minutes of action.
For the last several years, Courbon has played against older competition with the France U-18 and U-21 program, French Pro-B League and with the France national team in the U18 European Championship Tournament.
With Courbon’s signing, here are the 12 players, at this moment, who are set to be on next year’s roster playing for the Racers in 2025-26:
Ben Shtolzberg (6’4 senior guard/3.8 PPG last year at UC Santa Barbara)
KJ Tenner (6’0 sophomore guard/2.4 PPG last year at West Virginia)
Mason Miller (6’9 senior guard/1.1 PPG last year at Creighton)
Fredrick King (6’9 senior forward/2.7 PPG last year at Creighton)
JJ Traynor (6’9 senior forward/5.6 PPG last year at DePaul)
Javon Jackson (6’3 senior guard/11.6 PPG last year at UIC)
Layne Taylor (5’11 sophomore guard/17.4 PPG last year at Central Arkansas)
Brock Vice (6’10 sophomore forward (1.2 PPG last year at North Texas)
Brayden Shorter (6’5 junior guard/15.5 PPG last year at D-II Washburn)
Tristian Ford (6’3 incoming freshman guard)
Dylan Anderson (7’0 junior forward/3.5 PPG last year at Boise State)
Mathis Courbon (6’6 incoming freshman guard)
Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller still has three scholarships available to use for next season.
