Evans out at Valpo after seven seasons
WBB: The Beacons lost to Bradley in the opening round of the Valley Tournament last week
After seven seasons, Valparaiso and Head Coach Mary Evans have agreed to mutually part ways, according to a news release from the school.
Evans had a record of 73-135 record during her time at Valpo.
"I am thankful for Mary and the hard work she has put in to lead our women's basketball program over the last seven seasons," Director of Athletics Laurel Hosmer said in a statement. "She thrived on her players becoming well-rounded young women who grew not only athletically, but in all facets of their life during their time at Valpo. We wish Mary all the best in her career moving forward."
Valparaiso finished 13-19 overall this season, and 9-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Their year was highlighted by a 66-65 home win over Drake, that saw the Beacons come back from 20 points down in the middle of the third quarter. Valpo was the #8-seed in last week’s Missouri Valley Tournament, but they fell to #9-seed Bradley, 64-58, in the opening round on Thursday.
"It's a bittersweet day, as I've invested heavily in Valpo since I arrived on campus in 2018," Evans said in a statement. "I'm grateful for what we've achieved and the lasting connections made with my staff and student-athletes. My family and I look forward to our next chapter and wish Valpo nothing but the best."
After her playing career ended at Georgia Southern, Evans spent 18 years as an assistant coach before getting her first head coaching job at Valpo.
