Racers start to emerge from their shooting slumber
After making just 23.3% of their three-pointers through the first four games of the season, Murray State finally saw the ball go in from deep against UAB. The Racers made a season-best nine triples. Six different Racers knocked down a three, as Haven Ford made three of them herself.
Ford plays her best game of the season
Speaking of Haven Ford, the junior guard played her best all-around game of the year, by far, against UAB on Saturday. Ford racked up 24 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. It’s only the seventh-time this season a player nationally has racked up those numbers. After going 3-for-19 from the floor in the last two games against Illinois and Saint Louis, Ford bounced back with an 8-for-17 shooting performance against the Blazers.
Currie-Jelks puts up another double-double
After averaging 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds through the first four games of the year, Sharnecce Currie-Jelks just went out and did it again today. After scoring the first three baskets of the game for the Racers, she finished the day with 20 points and ten rebounds — her third-double-double of the season. Currie-Jelks also made her only three-point attempt of the contest, as she improved to 5-for-8 from beyond the arc this season.
Secrist making an impact on the glass
In her two seasons at Indiana State, Keslyn Secrist had at least nine rebounds in just three of her 57 games with the Sycamores. The junior guard has played only five games in a Murray State uniform, but she’s already had nine rebounds in three games with the Racers. Secrist had her second double-double in the last three outings with 17 points and ten rebounds to help Murray State win the rebounding battle for just the second time this year.
Next up: A trip to The Sunshine State
The Racers will head to Florida next week for the Daytona Beach Classic. Friday, they’ll play George Mason, followed by Saturday’s matchup with Boston College.
