Former Racer Burns to play in TBT
MBB: Burns will play with the University of Kentucky alumni team 'La Familia'
Former Murray State forward DJ Burns will be playing with the University of Kentucky alumni team, La Familia, next month in TBT, the one million dollar, winner-take-all event that starts next month.
The UK alumni will be coached by former Kentucky standout Sean Woods, who was the head coach at Southern University when Burns played there from 2019-21.
Burns transferred to Murray State prior to the 2021-22 season, and he helped the Racers finish 31-3 overall and make a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6’7 forward started all 66 games in his Murray State career, averaging 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game with the Racers.

After finishing his collegiate career at Youngstown State, where he averaged 13.1 points and 11.0 rebounds during the 2023-24 season, Burns played this past season for Maccabi Rishon in the Israeli National League. In his first season of professional basketball, Burns averaged 17.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 54.0% from the floor and 38.5% from three-point range.
Along with Burns, La Familia also expects to have former UK players Willie Cauley-Stein, Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Doron Lamb, Deandre Liggins and Archie Goodwin on the roster.
TBT, short for The Basketball Tournament, begins July 18th. La Familia will play in the Lexington Regional at Memorial Coliseum. For ticket information, you can click here.
