Askins signed with Murray State back in November as part of Rechelle Turner’s 2025 recruiting class.
According to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, a statewide committee of sportswriters selected the winners based on performance during the 2024-25 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.
“This is such an outstanding honor for all 36 of the young men and women recognized this evening at the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards,” TSSAA Executive Director Mark Reeves said in a statement. “They were here not only due to their athletic ability that they displayed on the court throughout the season, but just as much for their outstanding character and academic achievements.”
The 6’1 Askins led South Side to the TSSAA state quarterfinals last week, where they lost to Northview Academy, 55-48. Askins averaged 16.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game this season. With Askins leading the way, South Side was state runner-up in 2022, won a state championship in 2023, and made the state quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons.
"Jaidynn is the first Tennessee product to join our program during my tenure, and I am thrilled to say the Volunteer state is sending us one of the finest athletes our program has ever had," said Turner said when Askins signed with the program back in November. “Jaidynn is built to thrive in our up-tempo system. Opposing forwards will have to deal with her tremendous speed in transition, and she can attack the basket off the dribble and make mid-range jump shots in our half court offense. Defensively, Jaidynn will be fantastic in our full-court pressure, and she has the versatility to guard almost every position in the half-court. She has experienced winning a state championship at the high school level, and we are very excited to welcome her and that title winning experience to the Racer family.”
