Miller announces four Racers will redshirt
MBB: Three freshmen and a senior will get an extra year of eligibility at Murray State

Since first taking the Murray State job back in March, Head Coach Ryan Miller has talked openly about trying to redshirt several players this season while saving a year of their eligibility. With now having 15 scholarship players, up from 13 in past years, Miller simply can’t play that many guys. If he has players that he knows won’t play, it just makes sense to preserve that extra year.
During his pregame interview ahead of Murray State’s game with Mississippi Valley State, Miller said he intends to redshirt four Racers this season: senior guard Ben Shtolzberg, and freshmen Lachlan Crate, Tristian Ford and Dillon Butler.
“Those guys will be part of the scout team and development squad that we have this year, but they’re treated no different than anybody else,” Miller said. “They’ll be developing for the next year and holding our culture together as we go through this year’s process.”

It might seem odd that Shtolzberg, the transfer from UC Santa Barbara, would sit out for the year as a senior. His redshirt is one part developmental and one part medical. Shtolzberg has been dealing with a stress reaction in his foot and has been out of practice for the better part of a month. He still hasn’t been cleared to practice with the team.
With this veteran Racer squad, it was going to be a challenge for the three freshmen to crack Miller’s rotation, so they will spend this year trying to better themselves on the floor and then compete for playing time next season.

What is going on with Vice? He wasn't on red shirt list. Thought early on he had a chance to get some meaningful minutes.
