Old OVC rivals meeting again in Murray
MBB: Murray State will play Morehead State for the first time since leaving the OVC

For the first time since Murray State beat Morehead State in the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game, the two longtime rivals will renew acquaintances later this season.
Murray State announced on Friday the Racers and Eagles will meet at the CFSB Center on Tuesday, December 2nd. RacerBasketball.com first told you about this matchup back on April 30th.
Jonathan Mattox, who spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Steve Prohm from 2022-24, is entering his second first season as Morehead State’s head coach. Last year the Eagles finished 15-17 overall and 10-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Murray State and Morehead State met 169 times dating back to 1934, with the Racers holding a 117-52 edge over the Eagles. Their last meeting was in 2022, in Murray State’s final game in the Ohio Valley Conference, as the Racers edged Morehead State, 71-67, in the OVC Tournament championship game in Evansville.
The only missing pieces in Murray State’s non-conference schedule are a date and opponent for the Racers’ home exhibition game, and the opponent for the season-opener, November 3rd, in the Field of 68’s Opening Day Showcase. There is still an expectation that the Racers will play two conference games prior to Christmas. The Missouri Valley likely won’t release the conference slate until closer to September.
