Pair headed to portal say they've heard from Racers
MBB: The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, March 24th
(Note: Over the next several weeks, as new Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller looks to fill out his 2025-26 roster, he and his staff will almost certainly contact countless players in the transfer portal. We will work to keep you updated on who Miller and his staff are talking with that could, I repeat — could, end up as Racers next year. Just because a player has “heard” from a school does NOT necessarily mean a scholarship has been offered. At its core, it just means they’ve talked. To wrap this up, when players say they’ve talked with Murray State coaches, I’ll pass that along. How far those conversations progress will remain to be seen.)
Two players from Southern Utah University, who both intend to be in the transfer portal when it opens on Monday, say they’ve heard from Murray State. Southern Utah forward Jamir Simpson told The Portal Report he’s heard from the Racers, along with Oklahoma State, Marshall, Cal Poly and UT Arlington.
Here are some of Simpson’s highlights from this season:
The 6’5 grad transfer averaged 16.1 points and 4.7 rebounds for Southern Utah this season. Simpson scored at least 20 points 14 times this year, highlighted by the 28-point performance he put up against Loyola-Chicago on November 19th.
The other SUU player that told The Portal Report he’s heard from Murray State is Dominique Ford. The 6’5 shooting guard says he’s also heard from Nevada, Cal State Bakersfield, Long Beach State, Southern Illinois, Stanford, George Mason and UT Arlington.
Ford averaged 14.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals this season for the Thunderbirds. Here are some highlights from his season:
Ford had a season-high 29 points against Utah Tech on February 27th. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Southern Utah finished the season 12-19 overall and 4-12 in the WAC.
