In each of the last two years, Murray State finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 7-2 record.

In 2023, their first year in the Missouri Valley Conference, the Racers went 7-13 in conference play.

In 2024, in the first year of their up-tempo ‘system’, the Racers went 12-8 in the Valley.

Bringing in her first true recruiting class built to compete in the Missouri Valley, Murray State Head Coach Rechelle Turner put together, arguably, the most difficult non-conference schedule in the history of the program. The goal was to test and prepare her team to make a run at a Missouri Valley championship.

But somewhere along the way in the last two weeks, something went wrong with the Racers — or, maybe more accurately, something went wrong with Turner. Maybe it was in Baton Rouge when her team was taking #7 LSU to the wire. Maybe it was in the first half Saturday on the road at Memphis. Something was wrong.
