The Phoenix Suns have traded Cameron Payne to the San Antonio Spurs, according to multiple reports.
NBA.com is reporting the Suns will send Payne, a future second-round pick and cash considerations to the Spurs in return for a future second-round pick.
Payne played in 48 games last season for Phoenix, starting a career-high 15 times, as he averaged 10.3 points and 4.5 assists per game. He will be leaving a franchise in the Suns that is hoping to contend for a 2024 NBA championship. The Spurs are a team that is rebuilding behind 2023 #1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama.
As he heads to San Antonio, Payne will be playing in the final year of his three-year, $19,000,000 contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
The Spurs currently have two point guards on their roster: Devonte’ Graham and Tre Jones. Both players have two years left on their current deals. Jones started 65 games last year, averaging 12.9 points and 6.6 assists per game. Graham was traded to San Antonio in the middle of last season from New Orleans.
