Sleets' jersey will be retired this season
MBB: The former Racer will be honored on November 7th at the CFSB Center

Murray State announced Wednesday they will retire the jersey of former Racer guard Lamont Sleets on November 7th at the CFSB Center.
One of three Racers to earn All-Ohio Valley Conference honors four times, Sleets played on three championship teams during his time at Murray State from 1979-84. He still ranks #8 on Murray State’s all-time scoring list and #3 on the program’s all-time assist list, and he was inducted into Murray State’s Hall of Fame in 1994.
"I am very appreciative of AD Nico Yantko and the Murray State Hall of Fame committee for this honor," Sleets said in a statement. "Even though my career ended more than 40 years ago, time hasn't diminished my love for Murray State and the Racer Basketball program. The support I received from Coach (Ron) Greene, his staff and the fans, was amazing, and I grew up a lot while wearing that Racer uniform. My time at Murray State shaped my life after my playing days in a very positive way."

In a move to expand the number of former players that can be honored, Murray State instituted a policy in 2020 to allow for both numbers and jerseys to be retired. Sleets is the first men’s basketball player to have his jersey retired under this new protocol.
"Lamont is a tremendous representation of what it means to be a Racer, and we are excited to honor him this season," Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller said in a statement. “His Hall of Fame career is a road map for success in our program, and we cannot wait to have him back home."
Sleets will be honored during Murray State’s home opener with Mississippi Valley State on November 7th.
