Taylor nearly cleared after shoulder surgery
MBB: The sophomore guard injured his labrum at Central Arkansas in January
Sophomore guard Layne Taylor will be a full participant in summer workouts starting next week, according to Murray State Head Coach Ryan Miller.
Taylor played his freshman season at Central Arkansas, where he averaged 17.4 points per game on his way to earning a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman team. He only played in 20 games last year, with his last action coming on January 23rd against Austin Peay. After having shoulder surgery, Taylor is about to finally receive full clearance to get on the court with his new teammates.
“We're very excited about Layne and what he's done,” Miller said during his appearance on ‘Morning In The Valley’. “He had labrum surgery five months ago, six months ago. He's been recovering with that labrum surgery on his shoulder, and he's been cleared for everything but contact. In July when we come back, I believe we come back July 6th or 7th, he'll be cleared for contact so he'll be practicing full-go. Right now, he's been practicing, but not in contact.”
The 5’11 guard led Central Arkansas in scoring last season, while also grabbing 3.6 rebounds and dishing out 3.7 assists for the Bears. His assist-to-turnover ratio was also 2.18. The last Racer to have an assist-to-turnover ratio of least 2-to-1 was Justice Hill with 2.66 in 2021-22. Taylor also had 1.9 steals per game, as he had at least three steals in six different games for UCA.

When Taylor and the team return next week to resume summer workouts, they will begin to slowly turn their focus to their summer international trip to The Bahamas to play three games in early August. If you’re wanting to travel to Nassau to see the Racers play, more information can be found here.
