Murray State announced on Friday that Women’s Basketball Coach Rechelle Turner has received a contract extension through the 2028-29 season. The four-year contract is the longest contract allowed by state law.
“Coach Turner did a tremendous job leading our women's basketball team to an MVC regular season title, an MVC tournament title, and an appearance in March Madness last season, so we are thrilled to continue to have her lead this program," Murray State Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said in a statement. "We are committed to our continued investment into our women's basketball program and into Coach Turner as we look to defend our conference titles."
This past season, Turner led the Racers to a program-record 25 wins and their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2008. Murray State also clinched a share of their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship.
"This extension is a commitment not only to me, but also to my outstanding staff and our exceptional group of players," Turner said in a statement. "It will provide us the long-term platform necessary to continue the pursuit of Missouri Valley championships each and every season. The future of our program is exceedingly bright, and I am already excited and energized by the talented young women that will make up our 2025-26 roster. I can't wait to have our amazing fans back inside the CFSB Center, as they help us create one of the most electric atmospheres for women's basketball in the country."
Murray State averaged 86.8 points per game this season, which was the most in program history. The last two years have been the two highest scoring seasons ever for the Racers.
Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Murray State has shot 77.8% from the free throw line. That’s the best number in the country over that time period.
Very well deserved! I hope there was a substantial pay raise involved as well
So if this is state law that 4 years is the max, is that only for state employees???
