Former Murray State standout KJ Williams has signed a contract to play next season with Boulazac Basket Dordogne in Boulazac, France. The team currently plays in the LNB Pro B, the second level of basketball in France. Williams says he’ll be leaving for France at the end of the month.
This will be Williams’ third professional season. In 2023-24, he played for the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League. In 30 games with the Blue, Williams averaged 9.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, as helped the team win the G League championship.
Last season, Williams went overseas for the first time, as he played for Promitheas Patras of the Greek Basket League. Before a season-ending MCL injury, Williams played in just 14 games, averaging 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds a night.
While he played a fifth year of college basketball at LSU, in his first four collegiate seasons, Williams put together one of the best careers in the history of Murray State Basketball. In 2019, Williams shot a Racer single-season record 69.8% from the field, as he helped Murray State win an Ohio Valley Conference title and make the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season. He earned First Team All-OVC honors three times, and was the 2022 OVC Player of the Year. Williams was a part of three OVC regular season championship teams, and two NCAA Tournament squads — winning games in both the 2019 and 2022 tournaments.
Williams joins Popeye Jones and Isaac Spencer as the only players in Murray State history to record at least 1,600 points and 800 rebounds in their careers.
